We started #pickup10 when my boy (age 2) and I went to the beach after the winter storms in January 2014. I was absolutely disgusted with the state of the beach and all the rubbish that had been washed up following the storm. What shocked me even more, was to turn around and see my boy playing with some of the rubbish that had washed up!
I am also a regular beach user. For years I've windsurfed and kitesurfed in the sea and now surf as often as I can, so seeing our beach covered in rubbish is pretty horrifying!
We decided that everytime we go to the beach, no matter what for, we'd #pickup10 pieces of rubbish. If everyone picked up ten pieces everytime they go to the beach (or wherever they go for that matter!), our beaches will be be cleaner and safer, especially for our little people running around or anyone else using the sea.
So why #pickup10? We want you to shout about it and get as many people as we can picking up ten pieces of rubbish everytime they go to the beach.
Then, Facebook / Twitter / Google+ / Instagram it whenever you do, with #pickup10 so that we can encourage more to do the same.
If you'd like to get in touch, you can find me on twitter @pickup10
Thanks.
